Theatre Junction First Calgary Savings Mentorship Program (free for High School Students)

Posted 2007-10-05 10:09 by Theatre Junction Society

Ever wanted to see the inner workings of a PROFESSIONAL THEATRE company?

Here is your chance!

First Calgary Savings and Theatre Junction are proud to celebrate another exciting year of the First Calgary Savings Mentorship Program. This award-winning program at The GRAND will offer you the chance to learn about the creation, preparation, rehearsal and production processes of professional theatre. Best of all? IT’S FREE!

Theatre Junction is proud to be working with our Resident Company of Artists (RCA) again. The RCA is made up of individuals from many different artistic disciplines. All of these extraordinary artists contribute their own unique skills and ideas to the creation process by working together on a full-time basis. The company’s work will be shown at all levels of development from experimental cabaret performances to full productions that tour Canada and internationally.

As part of the First Calgary Savings Mentorship Program you will have opportunities to learn from these talented artists through intensive workshop series, invitations to private rehearsals and backstage tours. Mentorship relationships will develop throughout the year and you’ll have a chance to speak one-on-one with RCA members and Theatre Junction staff about their profession and ask those questions you’ve been itching to get answered!

What better way to find out if this ‘theatre thing’ is for you? And if you already know that it is can you think of anything better than learning from and interacting with top theatre professionals?

ARE YOU WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR?

Talent is NOT a requirement, ENTHUSIASM is! If you are in high school, love theatre and want to learn more about the profession then we’d love to have you! You are expected to exploit this opportunity and get as much out of it as you possibly can!

Marie Brassard - Peepshow

November 14th – 17th, 2007

In this new production, Quebec playwright and performer Brassard ventures once again into the realm of the intimate and the forbidden, of possible worlds and parallel realities, tracing the invisible boundaries that separate us from each other. Like a unique and personal gift, she offers us another glimpse into her enigmatic universe of infinitely fragile metamorphoses. Thanks to dazzling sound-distortion technology—which grows more sophisticated and complex with every production—she constructs a bewildering vocal hall of mirrors where the unspeakable can at last be revealed.

“More compelling than ever, Marie Brassard bewitches us, infinitely gently, in a Peepshow that is as much about hearing as seeing.” – Ève Dumas, La Presse

“Marie Brassard is a sorceress. She captivates you with her very first glance, her very first word. . . . What charisma! You’d follow her anywhere.” – Amélie Giguère, Ici

Little Red River (working title) (RCA)

February 29th – March 15th, 2008

Secrets, memory, and the West are three forks of the Little Red River, a new creation directed by Mark Lawes with Theatre Junction’s Resident Company of Artists.

Promising and unquestioningly delivering a new style of theatre” Fast Forward Weekly

CIRCA – 61 circus acts in 61 minutes

April 29th – May 3rd, 2008

With this work, the name says it all. You know how long you'll

Be there for how much fantastic circus you will see. Watch as our intrepid acrobats battle the clock and their own limits as they tumble, fly, contort, juggle and balance.

The Rite of Spring and Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun

Created by Compagnie Marie Chouinard

May 6th -10th, 2008

Theatre Junction at The GRAND is pleased to announce the return of internationally-celebrated Canadian choreographer Marie Chouinard. In this avant-garde work, Marie Chouinard again finds an original pulsation that is essential to her movement. Far from contradicting the rhythm of her dance, the cadence and force of the music inspire, accompany and energize her, forming both the echo and the musical counterpoint of an organic, vigorous and vivid choreography.

“Savage and infinitely refined... terrifying, exhilarating, mysterious, immediate...”
