Calgary’s Honens International Piano Competition is one of the world’s most prestigious events of its kind and Canada’s leading presenter of music for piano. The Sixth Honens International Piano Competition takes place in Calgary, 22 October to 6 November 2009.
Honens invites high school students from across the city to be part of this important international cultural event. “Honens High” is part of Honens' innovative Music as a Second Language (MSL) “concert-learning” program.
“Honens High” invites 12 Calgary high school classes (maximum 35 students each) to attend an MSL chat led by Canadian pianist Winston Choi, Laureate of the 2003 Honens Competition. Each 45-minute learning session precedes an afternoon Quarterfinals session of the Competition. There are three performances: two 50-minute solo piano recitals and a 40-minute recital for violin and piano. Schools have the option of attending all or part of the afternoon, according to school policies and bus schedules.
The Honens High Program provide bussing for each school to and from the University of Calgary’s Rozsa Centre and tickets to the afternoon performances. Applications are available at honens.com.
