Additional Information

Clowns Without Borders is an international humanitarian organization, dedicated to improving the psycho-social well being of children whose lives have been affected by trauma, such as violence, natural disasters, disease and poverty. We use laughter and humour as a means of relief for children who have experienced a lot of loss and pain. We tour clown shows and give workshop in clowning/performance skills.

Alice Nelson works mainly with Clowns Without Borders South Africa. She has done expeditions to Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal and the country of Lesotho. She has also volunteered with Clowns without Borders U.S.A, working with children in New Orleans who were affected by Hurricane Katrina.

AVAILABLE FOR WORKSHOPS

Alice is available to teach workshops in physical comedy, clowning and improvisation. She has taught ages 5 to 80. She is also available for week-long residencies, resulting in a physical comedy show/presentation. Her emphasis in these workshops is joy through laughter and working in an emsemble to create new, physical, hilarious senarios and characters. Skills taught: physical comedy, foley, mime, clowning (including basic juggling) and improv.

AVAILABLE FOR BOOKING/ TOURING SHOW

ELEPHANT IN ZULU

60 minute touring show, featuring shadow puppetry, clowning and an array of wonderful characters.

A trained Calgarian Clown travels to South Africa to bring hope and salvation to those whose lives have been torn apart by disease, death and political strife. How can she do it? How can she rescue all 47 million South Africans....make 'em laugh for a while?
Throughout her journey she learns about the history, culture and families who live in this beautiful country. She also learns to bathe in a bucket. And pee in one! She discovers it's a country where people have huge hearts, hearts the size of Elephants. Featuring shadow puppetry, clowning and an array of wonderful characters.
Based on Alice Nelson’s humanitarian work with Clowns Without Borders South Africa.
